UPDATE - November 2009
It seems that Indian Trail Cranberry Orange Sauce is no longer being produced, as of this year. I have had over 200 300 2000 searchers land here looking for information, so I thought I would add this update. Scroll down to find the recipe for my own version of ITCOS, created years ago when we lived in NC and I could never find it for Thanksgiving. Please send me an email at coracooksblogATgmailDOTcom, if you find Indian Trail this year!

EASY RECIPE - MAKE YOUR OWN INDIAN TRAIL CRANBERRY ORANGE SAUCE
1 bag (12 oz.) fresh cranberries
1 whole orange including peel/rind, seeds removed
1 cup sugar
Chop all ingredients in a food processor or a food grinder and stir to mix. Refrigerate until ready to use. Be sure to let it drain a while to remove the excess liquid before mixing it with Jello.

This is it! Indian Trail Cranberry Orange Sauce for the cranberry jello my grandmother used to make, and my mother now makes, every Thanksgiving. I've loved it since I was a child.

If you are not a jello fan, this version may not win you over because it is a jello mold kind of thing. If you do like molded jello, this is a good one. Cranberry lovers, you'll find plenty of tart cranberry flavor and crunch.

Our family recipe is adapted from the recipe on the Indian Trail label. Locally, I've found it at our Schnuck's store in the freezer case with the frozen fruits and juices. If you don't find the Indian Trail stuff, then you can easily make your own, if you have a food processor. Not quite as easy, but still doable if you don't have a food processor.

You'll need 1 bag of fresh cranberries, 1 whole, seeded orange with peel, and one cup of sugar all chopped and blended together in a food processor or a food grinder. Be sure to let it drain a while, to remove the excess liquid, before mixing it with Jello.

That's it! Just that simple. Chock full of cranberry goodness and the stuff of happy holiday memories.

BEEMA'S CRANBERRY RELISH JELLO MOLD
2 (3 oz.) pkgs. raspberry Jello
2 1/2 c. boiling water
1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen Indian Trail Cranberry Orange Sauce, defrosted
1 c. crushed pineapple with juice

Dissolve gelatin in boiling water. Stir in Indian Trail Cranberry Orange Sauce and pineapple. Pour into mold. Refrigerate until firm.

I for one love the combination of cranberry and orange, and the fact that this recipe contains pineapple too is just icing on the cake!

Sandie, I'm with you on the cranberry-orange combination for any kind of food!

Thanks so much for the Cranberry Orange Sauce recipe! I haven't been able to find Indian Trail Cranberry Orange Sauce for months, and my grocer told me it had been discontinued or gone out of business. I've used it for many years to adapt one of my mom's recipes, similar to yours. It just wouldn't be Thanksgiving or Christmas without it. Thanks again!

Carol, I'm glad you found the cranberry orange info and recipe here. You wouldn't believe how many people have trouble finding Indian Trail, but based on my site traffic, there are lots of us who love it and have trouble finding it. Everybody needs to let the grocers of the world know it IS still being made!

I called the company today, and they verified that Cranberry Orange Relish is no longer being made. i asked why I was still finding it at my supermarket if it was no longer being produced. The representative told me that they stopped making it last in the fall of 2008 and that stores had possibly stockpiled it knowing that there would be no more to be had. I told her that my family has used TONS of this stuff over the decades and that many people were sure to be terribly disappointed when the last bit runs out. She said she would be sure to pass the information on to the folks who made the decision to stop making this wonderful stuff.

I hate to think they have really stopped making Indian Trail Cranberry Relish! I'll be back to making my own version now to make my holiday salad.

You have a recipe for that stuff?? Do tell!

My recipe:
Cranberry Orange Sauce
(like Indian Trail)
1 bag of fresh cranberries
1 whole, seeded orange with peel
1 cup of sugar

Chop all ingredients in a food processor or a food grinder and stir to mix. Refrigerate until ready to use. Be sure to let it drain a while to remove the excess liquid before mixing it with Jello.

I will give it a try. Thank you!

How BIG a bag of cranberries?

And if you don't have a food processor, do you think a blender will work?

Cora -- Thanks so much for this information. I *wondered* why I couldn't find Indian Trails anymore... Our family makes a jello mold similar to yours -- minus the pineapple.

It's a part of every thanksgiving.

Thanks again. - Julia at Midwest Moms

Cora-- I too called Bay Valley Foods regarding Indian Trail cranberry orange sauce and was told it has been discontinued. Everyone should bombard them with call--#1-800-236-1119. If we're
lucky they produce it again.

Not sure if this went thru or not. I too cannot find Indian Trail Cranberry Orange either. I did find the next best thing. It is 14.5 oz Marzettie's Craberry Sauce with Orange Peel. It is wonderful and now my jello mold is complete.

Thanks for the recipe Cora. I have been looking for this for over a year to no avail. I will be delighted to combine your recipe with my mother's for Thanksgiving.

Indian Trail Cranberry Orange Sauce is nowhere to be found in Madison, Wisconsin. Um, except in my freezer! I still have one frozen container leftover from last Thanksgiving that I will savor.

Meanwhile, send your complaints here:

Is it the cranberries in the produce section or frozen cranberries?

I, too, always used the Indian Trail Cranberry Orange Sauce every Thanksgiving and Christmas and can hardly believe it is no longer being made. I will try the recipe I found on this website. The salad I always made was my mother-in-laws and it consisted of one tub of the cranberry orange sauce, one small box orange jello, with one cup boiling water and one cup cold water. Stir the cranberry sauce into the jello mixture and add one apple diced and one orange, peeled and cut into small pieces. Lastly add one small bag of finely chopped pecans stir all together and let it set overnight in the frig. I have given this to many people and everyone seems to like it.

Thank you so much for posting this! Like others here, my grandmother's cranberry-jello salad is a family tradition and we haven't been able to find the Indian-River relish this year. Thanks for saving us!

Cranberry Sauce With Bourbon
By Joan P. Chilvers

12 ounces fresh cranberries
4 cups sugar
1/2 cup bourbon

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Stir ingredients together. Place in the oven for 1 hour. Stir contents occasionally during cooking. This tastes best when it has had time to sit, for example, two weeks. The longer it sits, the stronger the flavors.
Store in a refrigerator indefinitely.

Thank You for this! It will save our Thanksgiving!

I live in MN and had to go to 3 stores to find Indian Trail for Thanksgiving this year. I thought it was odd that I couldn't find it at Cub Foods since they didn't even have a stcker on the shelf. I decided to look at Festival Foods and I was so happy when I found it. On Thanksgiving day my mother who lives in IL called and said she was so sad that we would not be able to enjoy our Indian Trail this year. I didn't know what to think since I had already purchased mine. She said that 2 grocers in IL said that it was discontinued. I will be making a run to Festival today in hopes of buying up what they have and I am sure that I will be trying your recipe in the future. Oh and yes I will be calling them on Monday!

Thank you for letting me know my search for Indian Trail cran/orange relish in the Oxford, Ohio and then Greater Cincinnati area is futile. My daughter in Lansing, Mich. has stockpiled some, but we used the last of hers this Christmas. I'll just have to make my own relish from now on as the holiday salad tradition must continue.

Here's my recipe:
2 3-ounce packages Jello (lemon and either cherry or raspberry)
2 cups boiling water
1 container Indian Trail relish
1 12-ounce package frozen raspberries
1/2 to 1/4 cup 7-Up
Dissolve Jello in boiling water, add relish and raspberries. Chill til almost set. Gently stir in 7-Up.

Beautiful and delicious.

Here it is 2 years later and I still rely on finding your recipe so that I can make my beloved Cranberry Relish for Thanksgiving. I have no idea where or when I found the recipe that I use but the first time I made it I was reminded of my grandmother's cranberry salad that she made every year. It was my favorite thing. I remember (mid 1970s) her grinding up cranberries in the meat grinder but I never got the recipe from her. She also added chopped apples and "nut meats" as she called nuts. My daughter doesn't care for the dish but it's my nephew's favorite so I'm happy to make it for those of us that love it.

Here's the recipe I use:
Cranberry Relish Salad
1 pkg (3 oz) cherry gelatin
1 pkg (3 oz) raspberry gelatin
1/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 can (12 oz) lemon lime soda (7-Up)
1 can (8 oz) crushed pineapple, undrained
2 pkgs (10 oz) frozen cranberry orange sauce (now substitute a double recipe of Cora's mixture)

In a large bowl, dissolve the gelatins and sugar in boiling water. Add the soda, pineapple and cranberry-orange sauce; chill until partially set. Pour into individual dishes or an 11x7x2 dish. Refrigerate overnight until firm.

I add the apple (about one peeled and chopped) and nuts (about one cup chopped) a couple of hours after I make it and it's partially set. I also refrigerate it in a glass bowl with a lid so I can serve it and store it.

It's Thanksgiving time and I am again looking for the Indian Trail frozen cranberry sauce! Has anyone found it, or is not being produced? Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Thanks for providing this recipe! I was amazed to find out how many people are very attached to this product and recipe! My great aunt "auntie" made this every Christmas and thanksgiving. The jello salad tastes like Christmas to me! Auntie passed away this year, Ann's hasn't been well enough to make this for years. I am surprising my family by making it for our christmas celebration! Hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do!

Have been using your recipe last few years with no problem. Interesting that our Jewell store here in Evanston, IL is making an Orange cranberry mix like the one in your recipe ! Taste fine. Haven't used it yet though. Thanks

Thanks for posting this recipe! My Auntie always made this for Christmas, so this is what Christmas tastes like to me! She passed away in 2011 at the age of 93, but we can remember her with her signature cranberry jello salad! Merry Christmas!
